Nightmares
Darkness creeps in like a sinister blanket
And all around me, nighttime falls
The wild dogs begin to howl
And in the distance, I hear the owls call
I go to sleep in a deep silence
There is, not a single noise
Yet I wake up to the sound of screaming
Of my own, terrified voice
I try to calm down, I try to sleep
But I still remember Flashes of my dream
My heart keeps beating, erratically fast
Now I can’t help but wonder – why did I scream?
I used to love the night,
Now it’s such a shame –
Because when I wake up screaming,
Nighttime is to blame
Now you may ask “Why nighttime?”
“You can have bad dreams in the day”
But nighttime is when I’m all alone
And that’s when the shadows prey.
